❃ Despite its famously tiny arms, T. rex was a highly specialized two-legged predator at the top of its ecosystem. It lived across what is now western North America, including areas of Montana and Wyoming, in warm Late Cretaceous landscapes of rivers, floodplains, and abundant plant life. When the mass extinction struck about 66 million years ago, T. rex disappeared with the other non-avian dinosaurs — leaving behind one of the most iconic fossil legacies in natural history.
