THE MEAT-DEVOURING BULL
❃ This increasingly popular species was a bipedal predator that roamed what is now South America and was named after its unique features related to meat-eating. The name Carnotaurus is derived from the Greek words "karnos" meaning flesh, and "tauros" meaning bull, thus making it the "meat-eating bull" dinosaur.
❃ It is/was best known for its distinctive skull shape, which was short and deep, with eyes that faced forward, giving it binocular vision. Its teeth were long and sharp, with serrated edges that were ideal for tearing flesh!
❃ Studies have estimated that it could run at speeds of up to 48 kilometers per hour (30 miles per hour), making it one of the fastest bipedal predators of its time. Its agility and speed were likely important adaptations that allowed it to hunt and evade predators in the dense forests and savannas that it inhabited.
