❃ Orangutans are the largest arboreal animals in the world, meaning they spend most of their time in trees. They are also the largest species of primate after gorillas and chimpanzees. Adult males can weigh up to 200 pounds and females can weigh up to 150 pounds.
❃ They're mostly red-haired, hence their name which comes from the Malay words 'orang hutan', meaning 'person of the forest'. They have long arms and legs, and their fingers are very flexible which helps them climb trees effortlessly. Their feet are also adapted for gripping onto branches, with opposable thumbs on both their hands and feet!
❃ These great apes are very intelligent creatures. They have been known to use tools, and they have been observed making and using shelters in the wild.
