❃ Emerging from the rocky deserts and dry grasslands of South Asia, the leopard gecko is a small lizard built for life among stone, clay, and sparse vegetation. Its golden-yellow body is patterned with irregular dark spots, giving it the unmistakable appearance that inspired its name, while its thick, segmented tail stores valuable fat reserves for times when food is scarce. Unlike most geckos, it possesses movable eyelids, allowing it to blink, close its eyes while resting, and even clean them with its tongue.

❃ Beneath the rocks, the leopard gecko waits for the cooler hours of dusk and night before emerging to hunt. Its clawed toes lack the adhesive pads found in many other geckos, making it a ground-dwelling hunter rather than a wall-climber. When danger comes too close, its remarkable tail can be released from the body, distracting a predator while the gecko escapes; the tail eventually regenerates, although the replacement is usually different in shape and pattern from the original.

❃ Across the arid landscapes of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, India, and surrounding regions, leopard geckos spend the hottest daylight hours concealed beneath rocks, inside crevices, or within burrows, emerging when temperatures become more favorable. Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.
