THE GOLDEN COMPANION OF THE GRASSLANDS

❃ Often seen walking among grazing cattle, the Eastern Cattle Egret is a compact heron with a remarkable seasonal transformation. For much of the year, its plumage is almost entirely white, with a yellow bill and pale legs. When breeding season arrives, however, its appearance becomes far more striking. Rich golden-orange feathers spread across its head, neck, chest, and back, giving the bird a warm, sunlit glow.

❃ Unlike many herons that patiently hunt in shallow water, the Eastern Cattle Egret often searches for food on dry land. It follows cattle, buffalo, and other large animals, catching insects and small creatures flushed from the grass by their movement. Grasshoppers, crickets, flies, spiders, and even frogs make up part of its varied diet. This clever feeding strategy allows the egret to turn the activity of larger animals into an opportunity for an easy meal.

❃ Native to eastern and southern Asia and extending into Australasia, the Eastern Cattle Egret inhabits open grasslands, pastures, agricultural fields, rice paddies, and wetlands. It often gathers in loose feeding flocks and nests in lively colonies, building stick platforms in trees and shrubs near water. Equally at home among farmland and natural wetlands, this adaptable bird has become a familiar sight across much of its range.

When It Arrives

Your plush travels inside our satchel, and some designs may be vacuum-sealed to keep them protected and compact during their journey. Don’t worry if yours looks a little flattened when first unpacked — the filling is designed to bounce back and simply needs a little time and fluffing to take its full shape.

Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.

Plush make this journey every day and naturally bounce back after being unpacked. If yours still isn’t looking like itself after a week, write to us at support@gagebeasleyshop.com and we’ll make it right.

Care: Spot clean only. Do not soak.
