❃ The axolotl is one of nature’s most enchanting oddities—an aquatic salamander famous for seemingly never growing up. Native to the waterways of Mexico City, particularly the ancient lake system surrounding Xochimilco, axolotls retain juvenile features throughout adulthood through a phenomenon called neoteny.
