❃ Il pesce blob, scientificamente noto come Psychrolutes marcidus , è un pesce di profondità noto per il suo aspetto caratteristico e alquanto comico. Originario delle acque profonde al largo delle coste di Australia, Nuova Zelanda e Tasmania, il pesce blob vive a profondità comprese tra 600 e 1.200 metri (da 2.000 a 3.900 piedi), dove la pressione è diverse decine di volte superiore a quella del livello del mare.

❃ Nel suo habitat naturale di profondità, l'aspetto del pesce blob è molto diverso da quello che ha in superficie. In profondità, ha una forma più tipica da pesce ed è ben adattato all'ambiente. La mancanza di vescica natatoria, comune in altri pesci, gli impedisce di essere schiacciato sotto una pressione enorme. Al contrario, la sua carne gelatinosa gli conferisce galleggiabilità e resistenza.

❃ Il pesce blob è un animale che vive sui fondali, nutrendosi di piccoli invertebrati e materia organica che scende dall'alto. Nonostante la sua reputazione poco lusinghiera, il pesce blob è un eccellente esempio di adattamento evolutivo, perfettamente adatto a sopravvivere e prosperare in uno degli ambienti più estremi del pianeta.
